Advent - Day 3
Yarn Advent Calendar Crochet Pattern by Crochemmi
3rd December 2025
Doom scrolling this morning instead of getting ready for work I came across a post from someone asking how to begin repairing a tatty baby blanket which had been, literally, loved to pieces. Hand made items are treated with a reverence that machine made items are not. I still have the blanket made for me by my great aunt 30 years ago tucked away safely to remember her by and treat it far better than I do the ikea fleece that I use to line my car boot.
That said, I rarely think about the blankets I've made and cheerfully given away. I dare say some may not have been to the recipients taste and have likely ended up donated or dumped and I'm actually OK with that. Working on this advent project with a deadline however has made me perhaps a little more appreciative of the time we devote to projects. I've lagged behind today as I was at my local crochet and knitting club where we're getting ready to start joining our community project blanket to donate to the local neurology unit.
So while I may have fallen behind today on my advent project I'm happy to have spent time on a blanket which hopefully will bring comfort to a family. Even if it ends up donated one day or dumped in the dog's bed it's brought my local community a little closer.
